Julia Thompson, the 18-year-old pop singer from Cleveland, Ohio took the stage at the Beachland Ballroom Wednesday night (12/19). A natural musician, the songwriter learned to sing and play piano at an early age and is now teaching herself to play guitar. Julia wrote her first song at age four and now at eighteen is playing shows as an opener for artists like Cassidy King and Michael Connor. For this show Julia performed as a three piece ensemble with drummer, Josh Laguardia and DJ, Reid Daroff. The trio played an energetic and well rehearsed set that featured all of her released songs in addition to sneak peeks of upcoming singles. Despite being only her second performance Julia carried herself with swagger, captivating the audience with her powerful voice and catchy hooks. Julia’s song “Spark” is still stuck in my head with no signs of finding its way out any time soon.
For Julia music has been a lifelong love story. “It sounds cliché, but it has been a lifelong dream for me to become a professional musician” Julia said. After years of practice Julia’s dreams first took shape when she recorded and released her debut single “Hits” in early 2018. Three more singles and 50,000 monthly Spotify listeners later Julia, now equipped with a personal management team, has big plans for the future.
“We have 2019 mostly planned out already which is super stress relieving. I’m planning to have a few singles, some features, an EP, and hopefully a tour later in the year” Julia explains. Julia has already made huge advances in her career this year. It will be great to see how far this Cleveland native goes in the years to come.
