It's 1am and I just got back from yet another show at the Summit Shack. My ears are still ringing and the music is fresh in my mind, wow what a night. American Spirits put on one hell of an EP release show having three stellar acts from Columbus, OH open the night. The Ragoons, Lord Whorfin, and The Turbos all rocked their respective sets. It was one of the best full lineups that I have seen in a long time.
The Ragoons opened the night up, a drum and guitar duo performance that lacked no fullness when it came to sound. Their swamp rock fit in well with the other bands and their drummer rocked one hell of a mustache. Lord Whorfin jammed out to follow up the Ragoons. They are a somewhat familiar group to Bowling Green locals;Lord Whorfin has some former members of old hometown favorites Hobo Stew and Circle the Sun. The band mates also run No Culture out of their basement. No Culture has been great for local music, they film and record bands for free and upload them to YouTube. Rounding out the openers The Turbos kicked it into gear with their fast paced rock and roll. The quartet lived up to their reputation as one of the Summit Shack favorites. All three of these bands have upcoming Plug Profiles you wont want to miss.
Lord Whorfin playing at the Summit Shack 2/23/18
Capping off the night American Spirits brought down the house with a clean hard set. You can tell the band spent a lot of time practicing in the studio and they are seasoned veterans of performance after nearly a year of playing shows together. Bodies packed closely into the Summit Shack to celebrate the release of Nowhere Near Perfect made for one of the best Fridays I have had in a while. I listened to the EP three or four times yesterday and man is it good. Recorded at The Master Bedroom in Collingwood Arts Center the record sounds hi-fi and does a great job capturing the American Spirits. The songs that stood out most to me are Anthem and C'est la Vie but honestly all the songs could stand alone. American Spirits truly have something to be proud of. Congrats and thanks for an amazing show!
